What do we do campcraft for?
Right now we are training like mad for the campcraft competition, but do you know why we are doing it?
Some of us may think that is just required of us to go for the competition, but think of what we are doing it for. We are doing it to attain gold for our unit. Our unit has been getting silver for five consecutive years, if I'm not wrong. It's time for us to get gold for the first time ever. This campcraft competition is one of the main factors affecting our unit's performance in the Unit Overall Proficiency Award. We must get into the top 50 placings and this can only be done if we all practise hard and work together.
I know that some of you may not feel that this is as important to you as some of your other activities, but please try to think about what is at stake here. All these things about wanting to avoid trainings and push back training dates are not going to help us get through the competition. I know that it is hard to catch up with studies and all but proper time management can be the key to improving in studies and in our campcraft. Just like joe sir said, he could practise almost every single day and yet could keep up with his homework.
The gold unit must be ours to take this year. All the other UGs have gotten gold and we are the only one left behind. If you take a look at this year's (2006) stardate, you will see that under the cca/uniformed groups section, all the other UGs are listed as "gold units" and NPCC is left unmentioned as the last one. if we do well for our campcraft and other criterias this year, we would then be able to show the NPCC is no pushover and that we are capable of attaining gold. This is OUR cca, OUR unit, OUR PRIDE, when we get gold, we will be proud to say that we are from NPCC and that it is OUR cca.
Remember, it is not up to the CIs, the HOs, or the NCOs work that we have to depend on, it is our own efforts that will reap the reward.
