Yes, I still want to talk about it, I don't want to stop. Nobody's gonna stop me.
This is what I feel about the situation during a performance, so whatever you think is wrong, tagboard please.
The focus of the performance is about the audience's attention on the performers. In pds, there are many things affecting this. For example, where do you want to face to ensure that the audience's attention is on you? Do you want them to see the rifles, or do you want them to look at you instead? Do you want them to see your formation, or your stunts?
There are two things that happened during the ROD performance that concerns this. For example, the rolls royce stunt. When the spinners are doing it, we are facing the audience. You might think, ya, you're facing the audience, isn't that what you want? But I think not. The rifle is main highlight of this stunt because there is a thrown spin involved. HOW IN THE HELL do you want the audience to see that beautiful dumbass rifle spinning when you are spinning it SIDEWAYS? If you are spinning it in front of you, the audience can clearly see it, but not sideways. Imagine, the audience only looks at the rifle flying upwards and they will think that the stunt is crap coz they CAN'T SEE anything going on. You know what I'm talking about? Do you think that the audience will be able to see what you are doing with the rifle if your back is faced to them? It's an almost similar case.
And this is a good one. Do you think it's really that nice to have only one stunt for each formation? I don't think so. Nobody thinks so. Seriously, I think that the only formation that looked nice with one stunt was the one with amy stunt, it looked nice I agree but the others? SUCK. One for one, the audience will get bored very easily, and when they get bored, sorry to say, their attention span decreases like hell. In the end, we are also just performing for the hell of it. We should change already. Something should be done. We have already made this mistake during NDP, and we repeat it again during ROD. It's not right.
Another thing. When the spinners are spinning, the non-spinners are throwing rifles at the back. What do you make of this? I think this is BULLSHIT. I'll tell you why. When we are spinning, and they are throwing, who do you think you'll look at? I dunno about you, but the majority will look at the spinners, I am sure of that, because spinning is an
oh-so-fantastic-thing and not many ppl can do it. Yes, this is the truth, not many will look at the 'throwers'. And those who notice that both spinners and throwers are doing something, they will try to look at both, and what happens? Their focus is disrupted coz there are two different things going on at the same time. In the end, the performance is not nice. And do you think the non-spinners will feel very happy? No. They will feel like they are very extra and very un-needed.
I'm still saying this to soo teck, just because you have experienced being very extra on stage and never ever complained to anybody, it does not mean you can expect everybody to follow your example. They cannot
learn this from you. This is natural human reaction, when you are left out, you will confirm 100% gurauntee feel hurt and very un-needed, and feel unhappy. I heard this from sze jin when I talked to her, she said that they were throwing rifles at the
back when we were spinning, and she said nobody looked at them. This is how they feel, get it?!?! You cannot expect them to be like you because this is natural human emotion. Don't tell me you're not human.
This brings me to my next point. You want to have spinners and non-spinners? Then why not do this. When the spinners are spinning, the non-spinners stay at the back and do nothing, keep a low profile. Then when it's their turn, they go to the front to do throwing, and the spinners go to the back and do nothing, keep a low profile.
You see how this works?
The attention is divided amongst the two groups and the audience's focus is not messed up. This is the least that can be done if the non-spinners don't have a chance to spin. For god's sake, do the two have to do it at the same time? And the non-spinners at the BACK?!?! Might as well not do right??? Can you imagine how they FEEL??? They will feel inferior and feel like the "other" group who "cannot" spin. The way the formation was done that night only made them feel twice as worse. UNDERSTAND???
I've told you about the spinning part before and you think that I'm trying to teach you how to conduct pds. I also think that's BULLSHIT. I am NOT trying to teach you how to do this, but I am giving you a suggestion which I feel is worth landing in your ears. Yes, it is true that I will gladly want to teach you how to do it, but I am not the leader, you are. You can choose to listen to my views and you can also ignore them, but bear in mind that what I say here represents the majority of how me and my squadmates feel.
